Biography

I am Jacque Fryday, a professional writer with over 15 years of experience in technical and persuasive writing. My particular strengths lie in comprehending ideas, grouping them into logical modules, and transferring those compartmentalized concepts into comprehensive, yet concise, expressions that are easily understood by the target audience—whether the ideas are presented in hard copy, online, or for presentation to a live audience.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems Management from Colorado Christian University, where I received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the School of Professional Studies.

As a Senior Member in good standing with the Society for Technical Communication, I have served as Publicity Committee Manager and as Membership Committee Manager for STC's Rocky Mountain Chapter.

Selected Achievements

Action: Elected Member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Webster, Texas. Became thoroughly knowledgeable in the commission rules and the zoning laws.
Result: Established a precedent for subdivisions and a much needed childcare center in a residential area. Planned feasibility for utilities, and access to the now established Visitor’s Center at NASA. [City of Webster, Texas]
Action: Underwent four 3-hour government ACWA (Administrative Careers With America) tests.

Result: Achieved exceptionally high scores on all sections:
  • 100.0%...Law Enforcement and Investigation Occupations
  • 99.5%.....Business, Finance, and Management Occupations
  • 99.0%.....Benefits Review, Tax, and Legal Occupations
  • 95.5%.....Personnel, Administration, and Computer Occupations
Action: Before such programs became available, recognized the need for, and developed, a document database designed for use as standardized, ready answers to commonly asked questions in RFPs (Requests for Proposals) and created a document library for centralized control of information.
Result: Significantly reduced redundancy of effort in proposal preparation throughout regional offices, provided company-wide consistency, and saved a considerable amount of money in research and production time. Documents also proved valuable as independent tools for sales and training. [Per-Sé Technologies]

Mission

My mission is to get the right information to those who need it, presented so the content is easily understood and in a format that is aesthetically pleasing. As professionals, I enjoy my work and take pride in producing a world-class product—always with accuracy, information design, usability, and content management in mind.

Philosophy

Good composition is the translation of abstract ideas into words and phrases that, when chosen well and arranged logically, paint a picture so vivid in the reader’s or listener’s mind that it tells your message clearly and concisely, yet completely—leaving no room for misunderstanding. This is extremely important for projects such as training guides, user operation manuals, or manufacturing procedures where poorly expressed instructions could adversely affect someone’s health or life.

Performance of technical interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the necessary research needed to fully grasp a comprehensive understanding of ideas, processes, systems, and products are part of a technical writer's responsibilities that I take seriously, yet enjoy.

Writing Style

Generally, I use modular formats that flow logically and provide quick references to make reading easy. The modular format is easier for the eye to understand in a cursory glance and is pleasing to the mind’s eye. Readers tend to procrastinate or avoid reading lengthy, narrative texts, but find reading modular format with proper headings, well-placed white space, and bulleted lists readily acceptable and much less time consuming. Additionally, I incorporate graphics for visual aids when applicable.

My writing can accommodate dictated writing styles. Traditionally, I use the following manuals of style:

Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
    The Chicago Manual of Style
